改宗ムスリムの人生（10）

アッサラームアレイクム！

Assalamualaikum!

私がムスリムになりたての時の話です。

This is a story from when I had just become a Muslimah.

私は母と共に近所のドラックストアで買い物をしていました。

そこで私は母と別行動で薬を選んでいたのですが、

その時突然見知らぬおばあちゃんから声をかけられました。

I was shopping in a nearby pharmacy with my mother.

At the time, a random elderly woman came and suddenly talked to me.

「あなたの服装、とっても素敵で美しいわね。」

“Your clothes are so nice and beautiful.”

私はまさか突然話しかけられると思っていなかったのでとても驚きましたが、

彼女の言葉がとても嬉しかったので

「本当ですか？ありがとうございます。」と答えました。

I didn’t expect that she would talk to me, so I was really surprised.

Since I was very glad to hear about her words,

 I replied to her “Really? Thank you very much for saying so. “

するとおばあちゃんは私が日本語で答えると思っていなかったようで

「日本語ができるの？！」と言われました。

So, she asked me if I can speak Japanese 

because she didn’t think that I would answer in Japanese.

「はい、日本人なんです。」と伝えると、

おばあちゃんは非常にびっくりした顔で

「まぁ、それなら尚更素敵ね！！！」と答えました。

When I told her I was Japanese, 

she said to me that it would be much nicer with her surprising face.

おばあちゃんが尚更と言った意味がわからなかったのですが、

そのあと、おばあちゃんが続けた言葉で理解できたのです。

Although I couldn’t understand why she said that so, and what would be “much nicer”,

It made sense after she explained with her following words...
