【日本での初めての医者 Seeing a doctor for the first time in Japan Part 2】

アッサラームアレイクム！

Assalamualaikum!

前回の続き＞＞＞ 

診察が終わり、待合室に戻るよう指示されるのかなと思っていると、 

「ところで、それヒジャーブっていうんですよね」

と先生が興味津々という顔で私に尋ねてきました。

After my medical examination,

I thought that I would be asked to go back to the waiting room.

But, the doctor asked me having interest in my scarf

“Is it called a hijab, by the way?”  

私は何事もなくいつも通りに診察が終わったことにほっとしていた時だったので、

突然の質問にびっくりしてしまったのですが、先生の質問にうれしくなり

「はい！そうです」

と答えると、先生に続けて尋ねられました。

It was when I normally felt relieved,

since my medical examinations were done usually without any incidents.

Although I was surprised by her question,

I was happy to hear it and I answered yes.

She continued asking me:

「それは、何枚の布で巻いてるんですか？？」

“How many scarfs did you use for that hijab style?”

この質問はさらに予想してない質問だったので、私は少し笑ってしまいました。

しかし、その時私は考えたのです。

「そうか、ムスリムでない人は私たちがどうやってヒジャーブをつけるか知らないのか！」

ムスリムでなくても、私たちが身に着けているヒジャーブに

興味をもってくれている人がいて、 被ってみたいけど、

自分でつけるのが難しそうと感じているかもしれないと思いました。

I didn’t expect this question, so I laughed a little.

But, I was thinking at the time.

“Oh wait…. People who are not Muslims don’t know how to wear hijabs!”

I thought that there were some non-Muslims

who are interested in hijabs which Muslims always wear and they wanted to try,

but they felt that it was difficult to wear it by themselves.

「一枚なんですよ、これで止めてるんです。」と言いながら、

ヒジャーブのピンを外して見せると先生と看護師さんはとても驚いていました。

Whilst saying “It’s only one scarf. I use this.”,

I showed the doctor and nurse my hijab pins.

They were really surprised to see them.

ヒジャーブからイスラームを学ぶきっかけになるかもしれないので

相手がムスリムでもムスリムでなくても、

もし彼らが尋ねてきたら 笑顔で

彼らに自分のヒジャーブの魅力を教えてあげるべきですよね。

必ずしも、学者のように

「イスラームではヒジャーブは・・・」

と講義を始める必要はありません。

ヒジャーブの被り方を教えてあげたり

私たちがヒジャーブを被って幸せだと感じる瞬間などを

共有するのが良いと思います。

 From Hijab, they might get opportunities to study Islam.

So, when they ask us, whether Muslims or non-Muslims,

we should tell the good points of our Hijabs with a smile, don’t you think?

It is not necessary to start a lecture like "In Islam, hijab is…”.

It’s good to tell people how to wear hijabs or share your hijab stories

when you feel happy with your hijab.
